GLICC History
The Greater Love in Christ Church, Inc. (GLICC), a non-denominational, evangelical, spiritually conservative and socially liberal church, was founded in 1978 under the leadership of Pastor Bill N. Lott. The Church was started by a small group of people (three families) who wanted to experience personal growth and development in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In addition, they wanted to make a significant spiritual and social contribution to the lives of individuals and families as well as impact the surrounding community in a positive manner. What began as a small prayer group has over the years grown into a fellowship of believers who come from a variety of faith traditions and religious experiences. Many of our members come from Catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal, Charismatic, and Sanctified religious traditions as well as non-religious, un-churched backgrounds. From its early years, GLICC has always been socially, culturally and racially diverse with individuals from the African-American, Italian-American, Native-American, Hispanic-American, Caribbean-American, Irish-American and other European cultures represented amongst its members. In December 1999, GLICC decided to move into our present, larger building because of congregational growth and the need to expand ministries.
Over the years, Pastor Lott was instrumental in a number of ministries, programs, and community organizations in Syracuse, including his Directorship of the Violence Intervention and Prevention Program, which is a community wide effort to effectively address the problem of youth and gang violence in the city of Syracuse. He was also the project director of the Syracuse Urban Youth Development Coalition, which under the auspices of the SMNF, Inc. provided capacity building assistant to grass roots, non-traditional and faith based organizations in an effort to enhance their ability to better serve at-risk youth and their families.
On October 3, 2009, after more than thirty years in ministry, the Lord saw fit to call Pastor Lott home. GLICC tarried without a Pastor until August of 2010 when the Lord answered our prayers and gave us our current pastor, Pastor Nicholas W. Aversa. Pastor Aversa encouraged the members of GLICC to follow him as he follows Christ so that we may continue building on a solid foundation already laid forth at Greater Love in Christ Church. GLICC enjoys a wonderful relationship with its neighbors, primarily because of our outreach efforts and the various ministries and programs that serve the community residents. Membership is currently growing and the people of God are enthused by what He has in store for our Church!_
